If there's a funnier blog ... it must be somewhere.

A Minute

Fifty-Nine Seconds

a notehour. hourglass. stopwatch. out of time.

a call

a prayer;

a hug

a kiss

a laugh

a tear.

Wow, amazing – this whole poem can be read on the little intro line on facebook! Not sure if that’s bad, or good. :|

  2. Kricket says:

its good! it only took “a minute” or less to read!

    • mj monaghan says:

Thank you so much, Kricket. I know how valuable your time is, so I took that into consideration when I wrote this. :)

Besides, you have a LOT of preparation to do for our meeting!

  3. vixytwix says:

I got so much from so few words :) Thank you for sharing that.

  4. I am inspired to “keep it short – really short” now and then – good one!

  5. littlesundog says:

Eloquently said! Are you some kind of romantic guy, or what?

  6. Analytically, is the 59 seconds the timeframe to accomplish ALL of those tasks, some of those tasks or one of those tasks? Because I think a 59 second hug might fit more on Edwin’s Awkward List. :)

    • mj monaghan says:

Yeah, I thought it might not be clear enough. My thought was, what would you do with one minute left in your life? Too obscure, I’m afraid.

And yes, a 59 second hug would definitely be awkward! :)

  7. riatarded says:

This is so beautiful! The 59 second hug better be a bear hug! :D

  8. Well, I love your idea, Mike- If it were the last 59 seconds of my life- I don’t think a 59 second hug would be awkward after all. I think it would be quite the way to go, actually.

  9. Joe says:

Brilliant Michael, and touching. On a more humorous note, have you tried to do those seven things in 59 seconds? That is, right a note, make a phone call, pray, hug and kiss someone, and then laugh and cry with them? That’d be quite the emotional and multi-tasking roller coaster, and all under a minute!

    Take care my friend!

  10. Got a minute – get inspired. Love it.

  11. Sony Fugaban says:

I just did and it felt really good. Thanks for reminding me, my friend! Few words yet the content is like a universe. Good day!

  12. I’ve spent a whole minute trying to figure out how you did this…………..awesome.

    • mj monaghan says:

Thanks Andra. I try not to bore people with my drivel poetry too much. I like keeping in contact with people instead of losing them!

      • I don’t have the nerve to write poetry, so I always admire people who do.

        • mj monaghan says:

Writing it is easy. Now, whether it’s good or not, that’s a whole different issue! I’ve only put out two so far. And I’m not really sure if they’re good or not. Other people have to judge that since I’m not an educated poet or writer. Okay … I’m educated, but not in fine arts. Just self-taught, or auto-didactic (as Tricia Goff Driscoll says).

  13. Elyse says:

Wonderful! But you forgot “a click” :) .

  14. What a beautiful poem. And so inspirational as we face a whole new year of possibilities, to mark it down into just one minute — makes it seem like anything is possible.

  15. meladjusted says:

that’s some special wordsmith talent you have there mj – so succinct and space saving too! I love the concept of doing something/anything with every minute, making them ALL count!

Reading your blog makes for some inspiring minutes! Every. Single. Time. Thank you!

  16. kitty says:

WOW ! You impressed me to no end !
I too believe in the concept of expressing in few words..
got so much from these few words ! :)

  17. So…Mr. Monaghan…my awesome neighbor to the west who writes kick-a$$ poetry as well as blog posts:

In case you haven’t heard, you have been nominated for the “Mikalee is a D*ck but You Are Not” Award! (Actually, I just wanted to thank you for my nomination and to help others connect with your awesome blog.)

So stop by for a visit if you get a chance, k? ;)

    • mj monaghan says:

You like the poetry?? Wow, thanks! I just made a comment that I don’t know if it’s any good or not, unless someone tells me.

And thank you so much for the nomination of the MIAD BYAN Award! That is very special. :)
I read the post. Awesome as usual. I’ll be commenting further over there.

You are too much, my high-altitude friend!

  18. Craftwhack says:

Lovely! I love stumbling upon poems as blog posts. They work well in this format.

    • mj monaghan says:

Jeanette, I love your blog – the writing and your design. It’s so well-done. Look forward to reading it more. Thank you for the kind words about the poem. I don’t write poetry very often unless there is a really strong compulsion and this hit me really hard in the middle of the night.

  19. Excellent thought, Michael. In this hectic world, if we paused to do any of those things, it would bring us many hours of smiles, reflective time and stressfree, happy moments.

  20. Jane Thorne says:

Michael I found your blog following the link from vixytwix and it struck a chord with me too…thank you for posting this..Jane
